ABOUT THE PROJECT With a view to give a boost to its religious tourism, the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh has identified three sites for development of ropeway facilities as a pilot project. One of those chosen sites is the Radha Rani temple at Barsana, Mathura. Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority, Mathura has been authorised as the Nodal Agency by the Government for the implementation of this Aerial Passenger Ropeway project which is to be developed on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis under Public Private Partnership model. The ropeway will be built in one phase with its Upper Terminal Point at the west corner of the Radha Rani Temple and the Lower Terminal Point at the forest land on the northern part of the foothills. The alignment will be 216 metres in length with an elevation difference of 60m. LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY Barsana is a small town in the Mathura district famous for being the birth place of Radha, the most important Gopi in ‘Raas’ with Lord Krishna. Barsana is situated off the National Highway-2 at a distance of approximately 50 kms and at the north-west of the city of Mathura. It is located at an altitude of 190m from the sea level and has a geographic area of 8.93 sq. Kms. The site is located in the north-western parts of the city at the hill with the Radha Rani temple at its top and the Hindu cremation ground at its lower point.
